Books that are damaged or fragile can require extra support in storage and while they await repair. Watch our guides on how to tie and wrap books to protect them from further damage. In the guides you will see the PEL range of unbleached cotton tying tape that is very soft and acid free, and available in tones to match the bindings.
How to tie a damaged book
When working with a book with a loose spine or binding such as the one shown in this video, it is advisable to tie the book with an unbleached cotton tape so that the binding and textblock are kept intact. This prevents further damage and losses from the original prior to a full repair. Our unbleached cotton tying tape is available in various tones to match the binding.

How to wrap a fragile book
When preserving a book with fragile surfaces such as those damaged by red rot or friable leather, one option in protecting the book is to wrap with non-woven fabric such as Peltek or Tyvek. To keep the protective fabric in place, an unbleached cotton tying tape can be used.
